Whitby Wedding
September 20th, 2010This past weekend has been one of the most memorable of recent times. One of my closest friends asked me to be their best man at her wedding and yes you read that correctly I was the brides best man. In amongst a gaggle of bridesmaids stood me, 6 foot 7 of besuited man. Being the brides best man (or as I started calling myself the Male of Honour) carried with it less responsibility than that of best man but still involved me having a fairly active role in the wedding. This included a speech, I have never given a speech at a wedding before so was unsure of what I needed to say, add to this the confusion of my bespoke title for the event and I was stumped. In the end I just literally sat and wrote the first things that came into my head and this is the result.
Emma has been my friend now for longer than I can remember and if there is one thing I can definitely say she has brought to the friendship it is insanity, but that special kind of insanity that only includes straight jackets as a fashionable option rather than an enforced necessity. By insanity of course i do just mean that Emma has a way of creating fun from nothing. Her laugh is infectious and I’m delighted to say a cure has yet to be found. She is and has been for many years one of my very best friends without whom I can certainly say my life would have been much duller, after all There aren’t many people I would feel comfortable walking into a late night weldricks with, in full zombie make up to ask if they had anything for rigormortis but as you can probably tell by the theme of the night Emma is one of them. As soon as Emma informed David that he wanted to go out with her I knew they would make a great couple, the love and warmth that they feel for each other is obvious to anybody and I look forward to spending time with them both as a married couple just as much as I did when they were merely living in sin.
It seemed to go down quite well despite my dry mouth and quivering hands from the nerves. It was the best weekend I have had in a very long time and came at the perfect time for Jen and myself. Life’s put on us quite a lot recently and having none of our own worries to being us down over these couple of days was just what we needed as a couple. The entire thing was fantastic from start to end, great food, amazing venue and fabulous company. We wish we could do it all again.

You did an excellent job of the speech, until I read this i did not realise you were a virgin speaker. As for the weekend, we (Paul and I) are so with you on the going back and doing it all again, but for Paul this may have something to do with your good lady dressing as Poison Ivy and looking mighty beautiful! Plus we would lik emore rubyisms!
