WoW, it’s Cataclysmic

August 22nd, 2009

Oh dear, the new World of Warcraft expansion has just been announced. I love WoW i really do, it’s totally immersive and back in the day i used to lose days in it, quite literally. These days however i really don’t get time to play. WoW is not a casual game, at the moment i only really seem to have time for a game i can quickly load up on the XBOX and play for as little as 15 minutes sometimes. Sometimes it’s even more casual and i just load up Peggle on my iPhone. I really would like to get back into WoW but the fact of the matter is if i want to follow other pursuits in life (which i do) i just really do not have the time.

All this being said, i’ll probably buy it and i’ll probably have a good crack at it, well you got to aint ya.

WpTouch

WpTouch

Originally uploaded by corneiliuz

Just added wpTouch to my blog and I think it looks really cool. It optimises your blog for viewing on touch enabled mobile devices like the iPod touch, iPhone and also devices running the Android OS. I’ve seen this format on other peoples blogs but only discovered I could add it to mine this morning and am very happy with it so far.

Maybe JailBreak aint so bad

August 6th, 2009

I did it, I jailbroke my iPhone, I opened my world up to infinite customisation possibilities and I tell you what I thought.

Bloody hell this is shite, my phones slower and as much as I thought some (not many) of the skins and customisations looked cool, after installing them and going “haha cool” I instantly wanted to remove them. But why I hear you ask? Well I’ll tell you, mainly because I’m not 15 and my iPhone isn’t a myspace page waiting for me to ruin it to incomprehensibility (if that’s a word).

I was on the verge of unjailbreaking when a friend said I must install Scummvm first just for a look. It has to be said this is the only reason I would keep my iPhone jailbroken. Playing classic point & click adventure games like monkey island and Simon the sorcerer is great and I reccommend it to anybody who has or is going to jailbreak. I’m loving this flashback to my youth.

This being said the slowdown of the OS in general is really noticeable so after i have played around with Scummvm for a little while longer I will be reverting back to the the official OS. Jailbreaking may well be your cup of tea, but it just isn’t mine.

Whatever happens in Vegas…..

August 6th, 2009

….. Is hopefully legal in the UK!!!

My friends got married in Vegas while on their 2 month trip across the states. I know I’ve already tweeted this and put something on facebook but I just wanted to blog about it too and I don’t give an impotent wallabys flacid penis if you want to read this particular post or not cos this ones for me!!!

The wedding was filmed and the uploaded to a website so I got to watch it actually happen which was really cool and a truly unique experience for me. Then came tech fail in the form of an attempted video conference between the happy couple and friends and family. It appears popularity is a curse when on a shared net connection in a hotel. They made Skype calls to us all individually and it was cool to chat with them now that they is all hitched N wotnot. It has made me think about my wedding when I eventually have it, guess I’d best propose at some point eh.

Jailbreak possibilities

August 3rd, 2009

Been far to long since i posted anything, anybody would think i had a life. Anyways been flicking through some Winterboard themes for Jail broken iPhones. The vast majority do not interest me at all but there are a few where they haven’t simply reskinned everything. They have actually used a little creativity and made it look like something other than a reskined iPhone.

Having said this i’m not sure i would use one because you would be completely changing the face of your iPhone and the ay you use it. It’s certainly something to think on though.

Finally it’s over

July 18th, 2009

One of the most harrowing and scary periods of my life has finally come to an end. My iPhone is back, or should i say my new/ reconditioned iPhone has arrived.

I’m sure it’s not mine because mine had chips in the screen and I’m guessing it would be cheaper to give me a new one than replace my screen and repair it too. It’s been such a weird experience going back to buttons. It has made me realise how little i use my iPhone for regular phone activity. I use my iPhone a lot, a hell of a lot in fact, but i have barely used my phone over the past two weeks as there just didn’t seem to be much point. It’s quite scary how dependant i have become on my iPhone but quite frankly i don’t care and i’m glad it’s back.

The love affair continues

Blogs got a new look

July 9th, 2009

As you may have already noticed my blog has a new look. I’d like to say thank you to Sian Gibson who you can also find in my links. She used the design from a tattoo on my back for the sites design and there is a pic of the tattoo on me below. I’m really happy with it because it’s clean and simple and uses something that is a big part of me (literally) and who i am. In some circles i am known as Big Bear and that is exactly what the tattoo is in totemic form. Cheers again Sian.

Broken iPhone

July 8th, 2009

Ok so it’s not as impressively broken as the image. The wifi won’t work and it appears to be a hardware issue. Took the phone to O2 who are sending it off to be looked at. They have given me a loan phone which is so antiquated i don’t even know the model but it’s a Nokia clamshell phone which im certain is a rarity for Nokia. Obviously i’m quite distraught as i operate half (at least) of my life from my iPhone. I have managed to dig out my N95 so the phone im using isn’t too dreadful but still 2 weeks iPhoneless sounds hideous.

To make matters worse i was informed by a friend that had i taken it to an Apple store (isn’t one in my town) i probably would have seen a more immediate course of action, harumph. Just pleased it’s less than a year old and therefore under warranty so isn’t going to cost me anything to sort. Small mercies and all that.

Creating a Forum For em

June 28th, 2009

Today i created a Forum. Your free to go have a look if you want but i set up so that i can keep in touch with people on my course at Uni so it may not be of interest to you Clicky Link

Last year we had a 100 days placement which actually ran for 5 months, this meant that the majority of our academic year as spent away from the university itself and therefore away from people on our course and this year we have another similarly long placement. Setting up this forum is hopefully a way of keeping us all in touch with each other in a place a little more specific than Facebook and giving us the freedom to chat about Uni and non Uni related items as a group.

I think it’s a good idea but it’s success will depend on whether everybody else does i guess.

It doesn't go to 11
All hail the return of one of my old and deceased blogs category’s, here come the pointless purchases. You know the things you don’t actually need but buy anyway just because you can.

So today the wife, child and i went to a retail park near Leeds best known for it’s Ikea. We nipped into the Carphone Warehouse which had a Costa coffee in it (random) but while in there i found this item. I’ve wanted a dock for ages but being the skinflint i am didn’t want to pay much. I like listening to music in the shower and this nifty little thing amplifies your iPhone speaker with no wires no power no nothing. It’s literally just a block of plastic with a curved funnel through it leading to the speaker on your iPhone and bugger me if it doesn’t work.

If your looking for something to give you amazing sound quality look elsewhere and spend a lot more than i did, but this meets my needs and i think it’s pretty cool.

Update. Some Twitter folk pointed out I neglected to give the price. I wasn’t going to post as it isn’t intended as an advert but carphone warehouse currently have it reduced from £25 to £14.99
